Singapore is a very modern city-state which has blended many cultures into one very foreward thinking society. We enjoyed our visit to Singapore in April 2003 and we hope that you will enjoy some of our photos. There are a large number of photos from Har Par Park, the remaining gardens of one of the heirs of the Tiger Balm company. John and Graciela Spreitz

This is the view from our room on the 21st floor of the Marriott on Orchard St. in Singapore. We stayed just one night before moving to the Amara Hotel. |

Here I try to look cool in the shade of the Raffles Hotel. But cool it was not: it was very hot and muggy. |

Such porters are not a common site as Singapore has modernized nearly every aspect of their society. |
This is one of the very old food malls. Overhead fans bring some relief from the heat. |
In the air-conditioned Suntech Center, thousands of people shop, eat and work in offices. |
The view from Faber Mtn. of a residential area of Singapore emphasizes the vertical aspect of the housing crunch. |

Along the harbor area, this amusing bronze sculpture is horseplay frozen in time. |

There are a great many Hindus living in Singapore and their temples are elaborate and interesting. |

Another Hindu temple with cows lining the tops of the walls. |

Haw Par Park was originally built by the older brother of the Tiger Balm dynasty for his younger brother. The gardens remains but not the art deco mansion. |

What a perfect way to enter the Haw Par Park gardens! |
Guarding the dioramas within the dragron are the life size horse and ox-head guardians. |
What story is this with giant grasshoppers, bears and elephants with cameras and guns? |
Here is a peaceful country village. Perhaps harmony according to Confusus? |
These lively 1930s dancers are found in an area depicting the downfall of man!!! |
Even animals are given undesirable traits of humans! |
Here a driver has run over a child. |
The Imortals transverse the great sea and are mistaken as enemies by the god of the ocean where a great battle takes place. |
Graciela walks over a pond full of turtles and fish as we say "Goodbye" to Haw Par Park. |
We took a day trip to Malayasia where we found this traditional village. |
While enjoying the Sultan's gardens, we saw numbers of newly weds having their photos taken. This couple gave us great big smiles. |
We saw this girl in the airport in Seoul, Korea. She is wearing a mask to help prevent catching SARS. And look at her bear! |
We hope you enjoyed our photos.
